September 18th marks a monumental day in the history of chiropractic. In 1895, Dr. Daniel David Palmer, known as the Father of Chiropractic, gave the first adjustment in the United States to Harvey Lillard. Harvey had become partially deaf after experiencing a loud 'pop' in his neck years earlier. Interested in Harvey's case, Dr. DD Palmer examined his spine and noticed a small misalignment. After correcting the subluxation, Harvey's hearing curiously improved, and chiropractic began to grow into the practice we recognize today. In the years to follow, we learned more and more about the amazing power of the human nervous system the vital role our spine serves in our daily life. Imagine how different the world of chiropractic was in 1895! Amazing how times change, huh?
